Stockport, England – A British woman admitted to killing her father and burying him in the backyard of their home in 2006 after she found his collection of child pornography including indecent images of herself.

Barbara Coombes, 63, was sentenced to nine year in prison July 11 for the crime, according to The Guardian.

Coombes went to a police station this year and admitted to police she had killed her father, Kenneth Coombes, in 2006.

Her father was 87 at the time.

The daughter continued to fraudulently collect her dead father’s pension and her carer’s allowance for 12 years which amounted to $250,211, The Guardian reported.

Coombes turned away the housing officer numerous times who was doing a welfare check on her father.

After Coombes confessed, detectives investigated and dug up her garden.

Two days later, police found the body of her father.

Coombes claimed her father sexually abused her for more than 40 years since she was 5. She added that her father raped her hundreds of times throughout her life and used her as a sex slave.

Coombes’ barrister told the court that her father may have been the father of her first child, who died shortly after birth.

At some time between the ages of 6 and 9, her father took her to a photography club and made her display her genitals while other men took pictures of her, Coombes claimed.

The abuse continued up until Coombes killed her father, according to The Guardian.

She told police that her father would constantly touch her breasts even as she was in her 50s. Coombes said she had no friends or hobbies and never worked and rarely left her home city in her entire life.

She told police she “snapped” in January of 2006 when she discovered naked baby photos of herself and another child that were part of her father’s belongings, according to The Guardian.

Coombes said she grabbed a spade from the garden and went into the living room and hit her father in the back of the head. He asked her what she was doing and was afraid he would kill her so she cut his throat with the sharp end of the spade, The Guardian reported.

Coombes then wrapped her father’s body in a carpet and hid him from her then 18-year-old daughter, Islay.

She then buried him in the backyard the next day.

She pleaded not guilty to murdering her father but guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility, according to The Guardian.

Judge Timothy King did not agree that Coombes acted in self-defense. But the judge accepted that Coombes suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and severe depression due to the mental, physical and sexual abuse, according to The Guardian.

Judge King noted that Coombes had attempted suicide numerous times in her youth and had self-harmed throughout her life, according to The Guardian.

Coombes never reported her father missing. Neighbors said they assumed the father just moved. Coombes told her daughter that the man had died suddenly from blood poisoning and had been cremated.

The barrister said that Coombes only started talking about being sexually abused by her father several months after her arrest, which was during a fourth interview with a psychiatrist.

Duncan Thorpe, the senior investigating officer, said Coombes showed “absolutely no concern” over her crime.
