Village Of Phoenix Police Department Responds To Their Officer Kneeling In Photo
Phoenix, IL – A photo of a Village of Phoenix (Illinois) officer taking a knee with her right hand raised in a fist is circulating on Facebook and has caught the attention of that police department which condemns the photo.
“We are working to address this … AND will take the appropriate actions. We DO NOT agree with this picture and take it very seriously,” the Village of Phoenix Police Department responded after the photo was posted on the Dysfunctional Cops Facebook page.
The police officer was not identified.
Taking a knee started out as an anti-police protest done by then San Francisco football player Colin Kaepernick last year during the exhibition season. Since then, it has been taken up by politicians, players from other sports and even a couple of Chicago police officers.
The two police officers in Chicago took a knee with an activist in a photo that also made the rounds on social media after activist Aleta Clark walked into police stations asking if police would pose with her as they all took a knee.
The first police station of “European” officers told her, “No.” But Clark found two Chicago police officers willing to pose with her in her second attempt at a different police station, according to the New York Times.
In her caption, Clark wrote that she asked the two Chicago police officers if they supported Colin Kaepernick and she said they said they did.
The two officers received a reprimand for violating Chicago Police Department rules.
President Donald Trump has come out against protesters, calling them SOBs in a speech he gave in Alabama. Since then, the president has doubled down on his criticism of the league and its players who take a knee during the national anthem.
“The NFL has all sorts of rules and regulations,” Trump said on Twitter. “The only way out for them is to set a rule that you can’t knee during our National Anthem!”
