Anna, TX – The Anna Police Department has released dashcam footage that showed an officer saving the life of a stranded motorist (video below).

Meghan Herrera, a single mother of two young children, was navigating a curve on County Road 373 on Sep. 7, when her vehicle careened out of control on wet roadway and slammed into a tree, KHOU reported.

She was alone in the vehicle at the time of the collision.

Anna Police Officer Brandon Blair had just left the scene of another crash when he was dispatched to Herrera’s 911 call.

Dashcam footage showed Officer Blair as he walked from his patrol vehicle towards Herrera, still in the process of putting on his yellow rain coat.

“Visibly, I could see she was shaking,” Officer Blair told KXAS.

He had barely had time to approach her and ask if she was alright, when he noticed something barreling towards them in his peripheral vision.

The video showed a pickup truck as it flew around the corner and slid on the wet road.

The driver lost control, and the truck’s back end shot forward, sending the vehicle careening directly towards Herrera and Officer Blair.

Herrera was facing away from the truck and was unaware of what was occurring, so Officer Blair grabbed her and pulled them both towards a tree line in the ditch near his patrol vehicle, the video showed.

He did it just in time.

Within a fraction of a second, the pickup broadsided Herrera’s vehicle, impacting the area where Herrera had been standing just a moment before.

“It’s something that you can’t see in the video, but it was seconds – within seconds – I could have been gone,” Herrera told KTEN.

“Watching that video took me back to that moment,” she explained to KHOU. “I’m just thankful. Extremely thankful.”

Officer Blair sustained minor cuts from having ran into the trees, but was otherwise uninjured, he said.

He described his reaction as “instinctive,” and said he was thankful he and Herrera were both able to go home to their families after the ordeal.

“I know how thankful I was that same night to come home, and I’m sure she felt the same way,” Officer Blair said.

The unnamed driver of the pickup truck was cited for no insurance and for driving with a suspended license, KXAS reported.

Herrera’s vehicle was totaled in the wake of the two crashes.

On Sep. 19, Herrera stopped by the Anna Police Department to speak with the officer who saved her.

The reunion was a “tearful, yet rewarding” experience, the agency said in a Facebook post.

“He’s the reason why I’m here, the reason my kids get to have me around,” Herrera told KXAS.
