Kansas City, MO – The Kansas City Chiefs released star running back Kareem Hunt after TMZ released a video of the NFL star assaulting a 19-year-old woman back in February.
In the video, Hunt and the 19-year-old Abigail Ottinger were arguing in a hotel when Hunt pushed her and Ottinger returned to hit Hunt in the face. (Video below)
A friend of Hunt’s tried to intervene but Hunt pushed him away but more people came to retrain Hunt. Ottinger tried to follow Hunt back into a hotel room but was stopped and then Hunt came out and pushed a friend hard who fell into Ottinger and both went flying to the ground.
Ottinger got back up but appeared to still be woozy. One of Hunt’s friends grabbed the cell phone from another woman who was recording the incident and took it away. While Ottinger squatted momentarily to regain her senses, Hunt came over and kicked her, causing her to fall to the ground.
Ottinger then called 911.
“I was assaulted. I need help,” Ottinger told the dispatcher, according to WDAF.
A NFL spokesperson told WDAF that the Chiefs and the NFL had not seen the video until it was released by TMZ.
The Chiefs said Hunt was not truthful earlier in the year when club officials investigated the incident.
The Chiefs released a statement on Twitter.
“Earlier this year, we were made aware of an incident involving running back Kareem Hunt,” the statement read. “At that time, the National Football League and law enforcement initiated investigations into the issue. As part of our internal discussions with Kareem, several members of our management team spoke directly to him. Kareem was not truthful in those discussions. The video released today confirms that fact. We are releasing Kareem immediately.”
Hunt told ESPN he regrets his actions.
“I want to apologize for my actions,” Hunt told ESPN. “I deeply regret what I did. I hope to move on from this.”
Hunt, 23, is in his second year in the NFL. As a rookie in 2017, he rushed for 1,327 yards as a rookie. This year, had rushed for 824 yards through 11 games.
