Hobe Sound, FL – A Florida Highway Patrol trooper remains hospitalized with serious injuries, after a vehicle slammed into him while he was investigating another crash along a congested interstate (video below).

A second man was also struck by the out-of-control vehicle.

The incident occurred on Monday morning, as Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Mithil Patel, 31, was speaking with Rony Bottex, 65, near the northbound lanes of Interstate 95, WBBH reported.

A WPEC news crew was filming at the crash site Trooper Patel was investigating, and captured the moment that a Chevrolet Express truck ran into the back of a black Audi as they were both traveling northbound.

The impact sent the Audi spinning across lanes of traffic, careening towards Trooper Patel and Bottex, who was facing away from the interstate.

Trooper Patel suddenly grabbed him, and shoved him towards the grassy area just off the shoulder of the busy interstate, the video showed.

The Audi then slammed into Trooper Patel, launching him into the air, while the front portion of the car knocked Bottex out of view.

Trooper Patel landed on the ground outside the camera’s view, just as the back of the car spun towards the spot where he landed.

Multiple workers, who were cleaning up debris from the initial crash, immediately rushed to their aid, the Associated Press reported.

Bottex was “injured but alert,” according to WPEC.

He and Trooper Patel were both transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach.

The truck driver has been identified as 43-year-old Clifford Perry, and the driver of the Audi has been identified as 24-year-old Jenna Baxter.

It was unclear whether anyone will face charges in connection with the collision, which remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
