Charlotte, North Carolina – A Panthers fan was captured on video sucker punching a 62-year-old at an NFL Thursday Night game (video below.)
That Panthers fan has since been arrested and is now in jail.
Along with his arrest, we’ve learned that the suspect has a violent criminal history.
Kyle Adam Maraghy was arrested after the assault at Bank of American Stadium.
TMZ reported that Maraghy had been arrested for assault at least two times since 2013.
According to CBS Sports, Warren Carrigan was the man who took the video.
Carrigan told CBS Sports the fight started because Maraghy and a woman he was with were standing the entire game and blocking the view of the victim and the people seated directly behind Maraghy.
Maraghy called the 62-year-old man a “geriatric fuck” and a “faggot” then hit the man several times in the face and drew blood.
Fans intervened and Maraghy and his girlfriend fled the scene by jumping over rows of chairs as fans booed them.
Carrigan said he shared the video on social media because he wanted justice “for the poor old guy who just wanted to watch a football game.”
Maraghy is 26 years old and was arrested for assault and was in jail, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
The NY Post reported that Maraghy was arrested Friday evening and charged with simple assault.
The Carolina Panthers released a statement Oct. 13 that they reviewed the video tape of the incident and identified the Maraghy.
“We are working with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department to pursue charges to the fullest extent of the law. The Carolina Panthers are committed to a fan-friendly and family-friendly stadium experience,” the Panthers said.
“The behavior exhibited by the perpetrator is unacceptable and will not be condoned at Bank of America Stadium.”
TMZ reported the victim was treated by a medic at the scene. CBS Sports reported that Maraghy is being held on $1,500 bond.
