Los Angeles, CA – A homeless man has been arrested for attempted murder, after he pushed a random passerby into the path of a box truck, then left the victim pinned beneath the vehicle’s front tire (video below).

The incident occurred in the 300-block of West Sixth Street at approximately 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, KTLA reported.

Security cameras at a nearby Mediterranean restaurant showed the suspect sitting on a chair facing the sidewalk.

He briefly lunged towards a woman walking by, startling her, then settled back into his seat, the video showed.

When a man in a grey suit began walking by, the attacker suddenly bolted to his feet and charged him, knocking the victim onto his back and directly into the path of an oncoming box truck.

The man tumbled backwards from the momentum of the push, and became pinned beneath the truck’s front wheel.

His attacker quickly reached down and snatched an object up off of the ground before he casually walked off without a second glance.

The victim, described by police as an Armenian man in his 60s, remained trapped beneath the tire for approximately 10 seconds before the driver realized what had occurred and backed the vehicle up, KTLA reported.

He was rushed to a local hospital with severe injuries, while police launched a manhunt for the assailant.

“He’s listed in critical condition with a collapsed lung and scrapes, bumps and bruises and we think he is going to make it, which is great news,” Los Angeles Police Officer Mike Lopez said, according to WSVN.

Several hours later, an astute Los Angeles firefighter, who saw the security video in a newscast, spotted and detained a man matching the description of the attacker, KABC reported.

Police responded to the area and placed the unnamed suspect under arrest at approximately 6:45 p.m., according to KTLA.

He has since been booked into jail for suspicion of attempted murder.

“It was definitely the bright neon rain jacket and the baggy pants, and just the demeanor the guy had,” Firefighter Austen Johnson told KABC.

“We followed him a couple blocks and made notification to LAPD,” Fire Station 9 Captain Raymond Robles told the news outlet. “I am happy [he was arrested].”

“I hope the gentleman he pushed has a speedy recovery and for the individual that did push him, hopefully he can do a little soul searching on what he did was wrong, and keep him off the street from hurting anybody else,” Capt. Robles added.
