North Little Rock, AR – Three Pulaski county deputies were hospitalized after a man attacked them in an incident caught on video (video below).
The incident started Dec. 8 when Jerry York, 51, called 911 repeatedly and speaking incoherently.
Deputies contacted him and asked him to stop calling.
“We are not sure if this subject had something wrong mentally or if he was on some sort of narcotics,” Lt. Kornas said, according to KLRT. “Immediately when deputies left the scene he started calling 911 again.”
When the deputies came back, York took off in his car.
Deputies stopped York and he bit a deputy’s hand, according to KLRT.
During the ensuing fight, the deputies tried to deploy a Taser, but it didn’t work. The fight was going on for two minutes before York’s friend started recording, according to KLRT.
“Jerry, do what they say,” the friend could be heard saying in the video. “You’re gonna get hurt Jerry if you don’t stop.”
The deputies could be seen delivering some closed-fist strikes, which appeared to have no noticeable effect, while York punched them.
One of the deputies deployed her baton and York could be seen grabbing it.
Then the video cuts out and when it returns, the deputies were on the ground fighting over the weapon.
York could be seen getting up and striking one of the deputies with the weapon. He then got on top of the second deputy and struck her with the baton.
Then York ran to the driver’s seat of the patrol car, locked the deputies out, and took off.
Backup arrived and flattened the tires of the stolen patrol car with a spike strip. York then reportedly rammed the patrol car of a pursuing deputy, according to KLRT.
York was taken into custody and booked on two counts of attempted capital murder, two counts of battery in the first degree, two counts of battery in the second degree, felony theft of property, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest, according to KLRT.
The two deputies who were attacked with the baton, and the deputy who was rammed, were all hospitalized with minor injuries and released.
