Toronto, CANADA – The gunman who opened fired in a popular Toronto neighborhood on Sunday night, fatally shooting two people and wounding 12 more, was caught on video as he rampage began (video below).

The incident began at about 10 p.m. on July 23, when a white male in his 30s, wearing black clothing, began shooting into restaurants and cafes in Greektown, CNN reported.

Police exchanged gunfire with the suspect, who was believed to have ultimately died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the New York Post reported.

Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders said police were investigating every possible motive, including terrorism.

A video captured by a neighbor showed a man briskly walking down the sidewalk. He was dressed in back and wearing a hat, the video showed.

Suddenly he turned away from the street and began shooting towards businesses, the video showed. And then the video ended, presumably as the person filming it ducked to safety.

Andrew Van Eek told CNN that he looked out his window when he heard gunfire on Sunday night.

“There was a lot of commotion in the street,” Van Eek said. “I saw somebody come just down the sidewalk and shoot into Demetres restaurant.”

Another witness claimed to have heard the sound of a gun being reloaded repeatedly, according to CNN.

“And then I saw the carnage as I ran down the street here to kind of follow the gunfire,” the witness said. “I saw at least four people shot.”

Chief Saunders said that the crime scene stretched over a distance, CNN reported.

One victim died on Sunday, and another died on Monday morning, Toronto Police Spokesman Meaghan Gray said, according to CBS News. Another victim who was an eight or nine-year-old girl was in critical condition.

No information has been released about the conditions of the other 11 victims, Toronto Police Spokesman Mark Pugash said.

“We were so use to living in a city where these things didn’t happen,” Toronto Mayor John Tory said. “But there are things that happen nowadays and they are just unspeakable.”

CBS News reported that Toronto police had deployed dozens of extra officers over the weekend in response to the city’s recent spike in gun violence.

“Guns are too readily available to too many people,” Tory said.

The mass shooting comes on the heels of another attack in Toronto, when the driver of a van plowed over pedestrians on the sidewalk. The vehicular attack left 10 people dead and another 14 wounded, CBS News reported.
