Tulsa, OK – Bodycam footage captured the moment when a good Samaritan tackled a fleeing suspect to the ground to help out a Tulsa police officer during a foot pursuit last week (video below).

The incident occurred in the city’s downtown area near 8th and Denver Avenue at approximately 11:30 a.m. on July 13, the Tulsa Police Department (TPD) said in a Facebook post the following day.

A TPD officer was out on patrol when he came upon a man and a woman.

Police said the man, later identified as Miguel Hernandez, initially provided the officer with a fake name.

The officer was questioning him when Hernandez suddenly took off running down Denver Avenue, bodycam footage showed.

The officer immediately chased after him.

Moments after the foot pursuit began, a man driving south on Denver Avenue saw what was going on and stopped his pickup truck in the middle of the street.

He then bailed out and intercepted the fleeing suspect, easily tackling him to the pavement, bodycam footage showed.

“Why you do me like that, homie?” Hernandez yelled out during the takedown.

The officer immediately took over and placed Hernandez in handcuffs while the good Samaritan returned to his vehicle.

The TPD said they are thankful for the citizen’s willingness to help the officer.

“We love our citizens and greatly appreciate all the support that we get from you, this was definitely a case of 110% support,” the police department said. “Please put your own safety first before engaging with any nefarious characters.”

The identity of the man who came to the officer’s aid was not released although video showed an officer followed him to his vehicle to get his pertinent information.

Hernandez was arrested on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.

He also had active warrants out of Rogers County for felony counts of burglary, larceny, illegal firearm possession, and conspiracy, according to the TPD.
