Baltimore, MD – Baltimore police have released a compilation of security footage, doorbell camera footage, and bodycams capturing the events that culminated in the officer-involved shooting of an armed fugitive last month (video below).

The footage was released by the Baltimore Police Department’s (BPD) Public Integrity Bureau on July 19, CBS News reported.

The incident occurred in the 100-block of Milton Avenue at approximately 5:30 p.m. on June 29, according to WMAR.

Darryl Gamble, 40, had an outstanding warrant for firearm possession and possession of a controlled substance when two officers spotted him driving in the area, according to police.

The officers tried to pull him over, but Gamble allegedly refused to stop and tried to flee from them, CBS News reported.

Police chased the fleeing fugitive to the intersection of North Melton Avenue and East Fairmount Avenue, where Gamble’s vehicle became disabled, according to WMAR.

The suspect bailed out of the car and proceeded to open fire on police as they passed by him, investigators said.

At least one unmarked police vehicle was hit by gunfire.

Bodycam footage showed a shattered front passenger side window in one of the vehicles that Gamble shot at.

BPD Deputy Commissioner Brian Nadeau said Gamble initially fired at the officers using a Glock .40-caliber handgun equipped with a 30-round magazine, CBS News reported.

As officers down the block returned fire, Gamble tossed the Glock aside and pulled out an AK-47-style rifle, Commissioner Nadeau said.

Investigators said the suspect was also carrying a stolen revolver loaded with eight rounds and had a shotgun in his vehicle that was loaded with five rounds, CBS News reported.

Gamble was ultimately killed during the shootout.

Commissioner Nadeau said preliminary findings indicated Gable fired off 33 rounds from his weapons, CBS News reported.

Police fired an estimated 40 rounds during the shootout.

BPD Acting Police Commissioner Richard Worley praised the officers for the “courageous work” and “outstanding job” they carried out during the chaotic exchange of gunfire, CBS News reported.

The officers involved in the incident have been identified by the Maryland Attorney General’s Office as Officer Nevin Nolte, Officer Connor Johnson, Officer Austin Gutridge, Officer Nicholas DeJesus, and Officer Matthew Banocy.

All five officers have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues, as is protocol for all officer-involved shootings, WMAR reported.

The Maryland Attorney General’s Office’s Independent Investigations Division is reviewing the case, CBS News reported.

The BPD’s Special Investigative Response Team is also assisting with the ongoing investigation.
