Bronx, NY – The son of a reputed mob associate survived a point-blank ambush outside his home on Friday morning (video below).

The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m., when the driver of a dark-colored Nissan sedan pulled up outside the lavish residence of 41-year-old Salvatore Zottola, the New York Post reported.

Surveillance footage from a nearby yacht club showed Zottola standing inside the open driver’s side door of a minivan as the Nissan began to drive past him.

An armed individual could be seen in the passenger seat at the vehicle drove within feet from where Zottola was standing.

Zottola immediately dropped to the ground and began rolling towards the rear portion of the minivan, the video showed.

He took cover behind the vehicle, but the gunman jumped out of the Nissan and rushed around the passenger side of the van towards him.

Zottola scrambled backwards and fell onto the pavement, then began rolling into the street as the would-be assassin opened fire at close range.

The gunman raced back to the Nissan, which then fled the area.

Zottola was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, having suffered gunshot wounds to the chest, right hand, and a grazing bullet wound to his head, WABC reported.

His wife and children were staying at the Jersey Shore, and Zottola was home alone at the time of the ambush, the New York Post reported.

Police recovered four shell casings where the shooting took place.

No arrests have been made in the attack, and Zottola was uncooperative with FBI agents handling the case, the New York Post reported.

He refused to give investigators access to the numerous surveillance cameras that lined his waterfront home and made it clear that he did not want officers’ assistance in locating the man who shot him.

“We want to thank everyone for their kind words, but you can go f–k yourself,” one of his family members told the New York Daily News outside the hospital.

Investigators believed that Zottola knew the gunman.

Zottola and his father, 71-year-old Sylvester Zottola, were both affiliated with Vincent “Vinny Gorgeous” Basciano, the former Bonanno family mob boss who was convicted of two murders and sentenced to life in prison in 2007, the New York Daily News reported.

Prior to Basciano’s arrest, he and Sylvester were partners in a lucrative poker machine business. In 1999, Salvatore allowed one of Basciano’s mistresses to live in one of his homes in the Bronx.

It was unclear whether or not the shooting was actually a message to Sylvester, who has come under physical attack at least four times in the past year alone.

In September of 2017, he was clubbed over the head as he was walking down the street near his home, the New York Post reported.

Two months later, a gunman attempted to force Sylvester into a vehicle at the Throgs Neck Expressway and Meagher Avenue.

Another attack occurred on Dec. 27, 2017, when Sylvester walked into his home in the middle of a burglary and was stabbed in the neck, the New York Daily News.

On June 12, a man allegedly pulled a gun on Sylvester outside his home, prompting him to return fire.

Sylvester was arrested for multiple offenses as a result of that incident, including reckless endangerment and weapons possession, and was scheduled to appear in Bronx Criminal Court for the offenses on the same day that his son was attacked, the New York Post reported.

Investigators said that Salvatore Zottola does not have a criminal history.
