New Port Richey, FL – Pasco Sheriff’s Office has released bodycam footage of K9 Shep taking down a suspect car thief during a foot pursuit on Tuesday.
The incident began after Pasco County Deputy Nick Carmack attempted to stop the driver of a stolen vehicle, the department said in a Facebook post.
The driver sped away, so Deputy Carmack and K9 Shep pursued them in their patrol vehicle until the suspect turned into a driveway.
K9 Shep whimpered with anticipation as Deputy Carmack brought the cruiser to an abrupt stop, the video showed.
“They’re about to bail. We’re going into a property,” he said over the radio as the driver and a passenger took off on foot.
Deputy Carmack threw open his driver’s side door and ordered the suspects to get on the ground as he released K9 Shep from the back of the car.
“Get ‘em, Shep!” he told his partner, who quickly clambered over a fence in hot pursuit of a suspect in a neon pink shirt.
K9 Shep raced out of the camera’s view for several seconds, but already had his teeth firmly clamped onto the suspect’s buttocks when Deputy Carmack rounded the corner of a residence a moment later.
The wailing man complied with the deputy’s orders to get onto the ground, while K9 Shep maintained his grip.
“Good boy, Shep!” Deputy Carmack told him, as he placed his handcuffs on the suspect.
K9 Shep continued to growl and clamp down on the man, yanking his head backwards several times as the suspect struggled.
“Stay still,” Deputy Carmack suggested.
Once the suspect was secured in handcuffs, the deputy ordered K9 Shep to let him go.
“Good boy,” he told him again.

The suspect was arrested after he was medically cleared, the department said in the Facebook post.
A short while later, Pasco Deputy Rob Wilkins and K9 Knox apprehended the second suspect who fled from the vehicle.
Investigators also discovered an infant inside the stolen vehicle, who the suspects abandoned when they fled.
Both were charged with fleeing to elude, grand theft auto, criminal mischief, and child neglect.
“We again want to highlight the good work of our K9s and deputies in swiftly apprehending these suspects,” the department said.
