Metter, GA – Bodycam captured the extreme bravery of a Candler County sheriff’s sergeant as he rescued a woman from a burning vehicle last weekend (video below).

On July 2, Candler County Sheriff’s Sergeant Ashleigh Taylor responded a report of a crash with a vehicle on fire on Highway 46 in Candler County, WTVD reported.

Bodycam video showed that Sgt. Taylor arrived on the scene and rushed toward the vehicle that was already completely engulfed in smoke with flames peeking out from under the hood.

The wreck had left the vehicle a distance off the roadway through some bushes.

The video showed Sgt. Taylor rushed toward the smoking vehicle and pulled out his extendable baton.

Then he used the tactical tool to smash the driver’s window of what appeared to be a red minivan.

“Get out of the car! Unlock it,” Sgt. Taylor yelled at the person inside the vehicle. “It’s on fire, get out!”

Then he approached the burning car and talked to the driver through her window.

“Ma’am, get out of the car!” Sgt. Taylor shouted in the video. “Take your seatbelt off. Take your seatbelt off and get out of the car. Give me your hand. Give me your hand.”

The woman, who didn’t appear to be assisting the brave deputy in any way with her rescue, screamed as if in pain as the deputy pulled her from the burning minivan.

Sgt. Taylor dragged the woman to safety just as a good Samaritan who’d spotted the wreckage arrived to help, the bodycam showed.

She collapsed on the ground as the sergeant radioed for EMS to respond to the scene.

Then video showed Sgt. Taylor carefully checked the now-flaming vehicle to make sure that no other passengers were trapped inside.

Officials have not yet released any information about what led up to the crash, nor have they released any information about the driver, WTVD reported.

Candler County Sheriff John Miles commended Sgt. Taylor for a “job well done,” and posted a thank you to the good Samaritan who stopped to help his deputy.
