Scott Township, PA – An unarmed bank customer took on an armed robber and won, and video of the incident was captured on the surveillance cameras (video below.)

The incident happened on Friday just before noon when an armed robber, John Ryall, entered the Honesdale National Bank, according to WNEP.

Ryall was wearing a mask and started to wave a gun around. The clerk obeyed his demands and handed him a bag of money.

That’s when bank customer Robert Sakosky decided that he wasn’t going to let Ryall get away with his crime.

Sakosky tackled the robber, disarmed him, and threw the bag of money across the floor.

After the struggle went on for a bit, Sakosky took Ryall’s mask off and let him go, just as officers were arriving.

Ryall took off running, and Sakosky pointed him out to the police. Officers were able to catch up to Ryall and take him into custody.

Robert Sakosky is the general manager of Carbondale Grand Hotel, and his employees told WNEP that they were surprised by his heroic actions.

“He’s definitely a hero, but he’s just a normal guy. I mean, he’s personable. He’s a good boss. He never gets angry. I’m honestly surprised he did it,” employee Wade Nordahl told WNEP.

Nearby citizens told the news station that they agree.

“To be honest with you, it’s good to see a Samaritan take down someone that’s doing a robbery over there,” resident Nick Olmstead said. “You know, it’s actually nice to know that we have a community that’s willing to help out.”

John Ryall is facing multiple charges including robbery and making terroristic threats.
