Bronx, NY – An armed man’s attempt to leap from the roof of a building to escape from police failed miserably on Saturday, when he was unable to maintain his grip and fell three stories onto the cement (video below).

The incident began at approximately 8 a.m., when 27-year-old Steven Paulino showed up at a Kingsbridge residence and began threatening a woman inside, the New York Daily News reported.

According to the woman, Paulino accused her of sending a someone a disrespectful text about him and his brother, rapper Snoopy Dinero.

“B—h come outside!” Paulino yelled from outside the woman’s door. “I’m gonna f–king kill you!”

“I’ve known him for a long time,” the woman later explained. “Right now, he’s really not in the right state of mind. He’s using a lot of heavy drugs.”

When police arrived at the scene, Paulino took off running, firing a round into the air as he headed towards a multi-story building nearby.

He ditched his gun along the way, then proceeded onto the building’s roof.

Paulino ran to the edge, then hesitated just long enough to plant his feet – as if on a diving board – before he made his ill-fated leap towards a fire escape on an adjacent building, cell phone footage showed.

For a fraction of a second, the soaring Paulino appeared on course to pull off his escape, but his hopes were dashed when he failed to maintain his grip on the railing.

His body bounced off of the fire escape bars, launching him backwards onto the cement three stories below, where police were waiting for him.

“It sounded like when you hit a wall really, really hard,” witness Liliana Ramos told the New York Daily News. “I heard the police scream ‘don’t f–king move.’ We saw the guy on the floor bleeding from his head.”

Paulino was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

His mother claimed he only suffered a broken wrist.

“It’s a miracle that he’s alive,” she said.

Although police recovered Paulino’s gun at the scene, his mother said she doubted that he had truly been armed.

“He doesn’t have any gun that I know of,” she told the New York Daily News. “If he had a gun, the police would have arrested him. I’ve never seen him with a gun.”

Paulino’s victim said she believes he is in need of chemical dependency treatment.

“He’s changed. It’s the drugs. It’s not even him,” she said. “I feel like he doesn’t need to go to jail. He needs to go to rehab.”

Paulino has been charged with reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, assault, menacing, resisting arrest, and obstruction of government administration, the New York Post reported.
