Waltham, MA – A Good Samaritan with a gun intervened in a road rage incident that involved an SUV racing down a highway with a person on its hood (video below).

The wild ride happened at about 4:45 p.m. on Jan. 25 after 37-year-old Mark Fitzgerald and 65-year old Richard Kamrowski were involved in a minor traffic accident with each other, according to The Boston Globe.

Kamrowski got out to try and exchange insurance information, but Fitzgerald refused to stop.

Massachusetts state troopers said Fitzgerald, driving a white Infiniti SUV, tried to leave the scene and Kamrowski jumped onto the hood of the car to stop him, FOX News reported.

Videos filmed by numerous people in other vehicles on the highway showed Fitzgerald driving down the highway for several miles with the older man hanging onto the hood of his car.

At times, he exceeded 70 mph, FOX News reported.

In the video, it appeared that Fitzgerald was slamming on the brakes and gas alternately in an attempt to throw Kamrowski from his vehicle.

Other vehicles boxed in Fitzgerald’s vehicle eventually, and forced it to stop.

Several men jumped out of their vehicles to approach the Infiniti when it stopped, but one Good Samaritan arrived with his weapon drawn.

In the video, a man with a black pistol approached the vehicle’s passenger window and ordered Fitzgerald out of the SUV.

Fitzgerald did not initially appear to be cooperating, but then he got out of his vehicle and leaned on the concrete barrier.

The Good Samaritan, later identified in court at 49-year-old Frankie Hernandez, held his weapon pointed in the direction of Fitzgerald until state police arrived on the scene a few minutes later, the video showed.

“The SUV driver ultimately came to a stop, we believe with the intervention of some Good Samaritans, and was taken into custody by responding troopers,” Massachusetts State Police Spokesman David Procopio said, according to FOX News.

Police initially handcuffed Hernandez, a licensed concealed weapon carrier, along with Fitzgerald and Kamrowski, but they released him shortly thereafter once witnesses had verified his story, according to The Boston Globe.

Fitzgerald was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and leaving the scene of property damage.

Kamrowski was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and malicious damage to a motor vehicle, The Boston Globe reported.

The men appeared in court on Monday and pleaded not guilty.

Fitzgerald was released from jail on $500 bail and Kamrowski was released on his own recognizance, according to The Boston Globe.
