Stockbridge, MI – A former substitute teacher and girls soccer coach was sentenced for repeatedly sexually assaulting a student.

Allyson Moran, 27, abused her position as a teacher at Stockbridge Community Schools and took advantage of a 15-year-old boy, according to Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Steve Kwasnik.

Moran still blames the boy and said he initiated the sex, Kwasnik said according to the Lansing State Journal.

The judge wasn’t buying her excuse.

“I wish so much that you had talked more about the lifetime of consequences (he) has,” the judge told her, according to Herald & Review. “He’s criticized and judged and he didn’t do anything wrong.”

“She used her position to gain his trust…and she took that and manipulated it into something for personal gratification,” Kwasnik said, according to the Lansing State Journal. “She lured him into an adulterous affair.”

Moran worked at the school district during the 2016-17 academic year. Moran’s attorney Sean Carroll said that Moran was having a tough time during that time period. She had a miscarriage, her marriage was shaky and she just started a new job at the school district.

“She’s faced alienation, stigma and shame,” Carroll said, according to the Lansing State Journal. “She’s grown from the situation.”

Carroll had wanted Ingham County Circuit Court Judge Joyce Draganchuk to sentence Moran to probation. Caroll said that Moran had lost her dream career and had to spend her life on the sex offender registry and that was punishment enough, according to the Lansing State Journal.

Moran apologized to the boy’s parents and said she wished she could take their pain away.

“I tried to find comfort wherever I could,” Moran said, according to the Lansing State Journal. “At 27, I will have a lifetime of consequences that will surpass any prison time.”

The boy’s mother said her son went from a happy and popular student to someone who has “lost himself.”

After Moran’s arrest, she attempted to commit suicide and her victim carries the guilt of that with him, his mother said.

“She took things from him he’ll never get back,” his mother said, according to the Lansing State Journal. “Tell me how it’s a child’s fault that his teacher preyed upon him.”

Moran was sentenced to spend between 25 months to 15 years in prison.
