Versailles, KY – A former educator pleaded guilty Sept. 12 to third-degree rape and third-degree sodomy of a student under the age of 16.

Lindsey Banta Jarvis, 28, has a recommended sentence of 18 months in prison after entering the plea.

She was charged in two different counties for sex offenses involving the same student, according to the Lexington Herald Leader.

As part of the plea deal, a charge of unlawful transaction with a minor was dropped. The incidents happened in May of 2016 and June of 2016.

Jarvis was a social studies teacher before she became a para-educator.

She was hired in August of 2016 at Veterans Park Elementary as a teacher’s aide and resigned from Fayette County schools in June of 2017, according to WDRB-TV.

Sentencing for the crime in Woodford County will be Dec. 5. Jarvis will be incarcerated at her home without an ankle bracelet until sentencing.

The police learned that the boy had left his home without his parents’ permission to meet Jarvis, who is married. The boy and Jarvis became friends and started texting each other. Then they started a sexual relationship, according to the Lexington Herald Leader.

According to court records, the two would meet in parks and take measures to make sure they were not seen together. Three times, Jarvis drove the boy to her home in Lexington and they would have sex there.

The boy gave Lexington police details of the inside of Jarvis’ home, including the entrance, stairs, bedroom and master bathroom, according to a police report.

The arrest warrant stated that the boy’s cell phone had messages on it that suggested that he and Jarvis were in a romantic relationship.

Jarvis has another criminal case in Fayette County that is pending. She is charged with third-degree rape and faces up to five years in prison on that charge.
