Hamilton, OH – A former high school volleyball coach and science teacher was sentenced to a rehabilitation program, community service and five years of probation after pleading guilty to a sex crime with a student.

Butler County Judge Noah Powers could have sentenced Hilary Dattilo to 18 months in prison, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Dattilo, 31, will have to register as a sex offender.

According to authorities, Dattilo “did purposefully compel a student enrolled at Hamilton High School to submit to the touching of an erogenous zone for the purpose of sexually arousing or gratifying either person.”

WLWT-TV reported that Dattilo would have to complete a behavioral therapy program and is banned from using drugs or alcohol.

Dattilo is also banned from contacting the victim.

Dattilo cannot live within 1,000 feet of a school as part of her plea deal, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. She didn’t speak during her sentencing hearing.

Dattilo also had her teaching license revoked after she pleaded guilty earlier this year to the felony gross sexual imposition, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

The victim was a 16-year-old female and wrote a letter to Judge Powers, but it was not read in court.

The police and school officials have not stated specifically what occurred, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. The investigation was started when the student’s mother went to school officials. The alleged sexual encounter happened between Aug. 3 and Dec. 8 of 2017, according to police. The school then contacted the police.

Evidence collected included videos from volleyball games and messages on a mobile app that was used for school communication.

Dattilo started working at the Hamilton school district in August of 2017. In December, she was placed on unpaid leave and didn’t teach again within the district, said Hamilton Schools Superintendent Larry Knapp.
