Montgomery, AL – A high school Spanish teacher accused of having sex with a student at her workplace during school hours has resigned from her position.

Natasha Patronsky, 24, was hired by the Montgomery Public School District on Aug. 2, the Montgomery Advertiser reported.

Patronsky allegedly had sex with an 18-year-old male student at the Sidney Lanier Senior High School campus between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 8, according to the Montgomery Advertiser.

Classes at the school ran until 2:45 p.m.

“On above date and time, the victim stated he and the suspect had sexual intercourse at the listed location,” court documents stated, according to the news outlet.

She resigned from her position on Nov. 20, just four days after police began investigating the student’s allegations, the New York Post reported.

Patronsky turned herself in to Montgomery police on Nov. 28, and was arrested for engaging in a sexual act with a student under the age of 19, according to the Montgomery Advertiser.

She faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

“We are shocked to hear of this allegation,” Montgomery Public Schools Superintendent Ann Roy Moore said in a press release. “We support law enforcement in their work to get to the truth in this matter.”

“Any person found guilty of putting a child’s safety at risk, should be punished to the full extent of the law,” Moore said.

According to the Alabama Department of Education website, Patronsky is not a certified teacher, although she does show up in the state database.

“Alleged misconduct has been reported to the Department,” the website noted under her name. “At this time the Department has not proposed any negative action against the individual’s certification or licensure; this status will be updated as soon as possible.”

Hiring non-certified educators is a common practice in Alabama, the Montgomery Advertiser reported.

School districts can rely on temporary certificates through the Education Department in order to meet hiring needs, however.

Patronsky’s initial court appearance has been scheduled for Dec. 14, according to the Montgomery Advertiser.
