Sacramento, CA – Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones is asking police supporters to show up and support law enforcement at a protest planned for Tuesday.

The protest comes just one day after Deputy Mark Stasyuk was murdered.

The sheriff made his request when announcing that the deputy had succumbed to his gunshot wounds.

"We have a planned protest tomorrow at a statewide law enforcement conference down in Sacramento," Sheriff Jones said. "I know that people have this overwhelming urge to do what they can, and not knowing what to do, one of the things you can do is go down there."

"Go down to the convention center tomorrow between 11 and 1 and show your support for law enforcement while they continue to protest law enforcement," the sheriff said.

Deputy Stasyuk was murdered when a gunman opened fire on him Monday afternoon while he was responding to a call for service. His partner and a bystander were also shot before the suspect was shot and taken into custody.

The murdered deputy had just gotten married six months ago.

The Black Lives Matter protest was planned prior to the murder of Deputy Stasyuk. The protest was planned to line up with the 6-month anniversary of the shooting of Stephon Clark.

Clark, 22, was fatally shot by police on March 18 in his grandparents’ backyard when officers responded to 911 calls about a man breaking into cars and homes. Recordings later revealed that one of the 911 calls came from Clark’s own grandfather.

Video showed Clark ran from police, then turned and faced them in a shooting stance. Officers fired at Clark, but investigators later determined that he had been holding a cell phone.

Thus far, the district attorney’s office has not yet ruled on whether the shooting was justified, and has not said whether any of the officers involved will be indicted, according to KOVR.

There is no ethical way that the officers could be indicted, because the shooting is clearly in accordance with the law.

The Black Lives Matter protest will be held at the Sacramento Convention Center. According to their Facebook page, the protest is because:

– SEPTEMBER 18TH WILL BE THE SIX MONTH ANNIVERSARY FOR THE MURDER OF #STEPHONCLARK

– PEOPLE ARE CONTINUING TO DIE AT THE HANDS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT WITH NO ACCOUNTABILITY

– There have been no answers from DA's across this state with respects to holding cops accountable for excessive force and murder.

– We will be disrupting the norm of a policing culture which lacks accountability and transparency.

– Law enforcement DOESN'T need continued training in TERRORIST and MILITARISTIC tactics!
