Las Vegas, NV – A 51-year-old mother of three who worked at a nail salon was killed after she was dragged by a vehicle when she tried to stop a customer from leaving without paying for a $35 manicure.

Ngoc Nguyen died after she was taken to the hospital, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Police responded to a call at 3:45 p.m. Saturday where a woman was hit and dragged by customer’s car after the customer left a nail salon without paying, according to Metropolitan Police Department Lieutenant Ray Spencer.

The customer had tried to pay for her $35 bill with a credit card that was declined, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The customer swiped the card several times and then told Nguyen she was going to get money from her car, according to Sonny Chung, who had been together with Nguyen for 13 years.

Nguyen called Chung over and both followed the female customer and tried to stop her from leaving. The customer got into a Chevrolet Camaro with a broken rear window, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Chung said that Nguyen tried to hold on to the frame of the rear window near the trunk but then rolled forward. Chung said the customer kept pushing down on the gas pedal and dragged Nguyen about 50 feet. If the driver had hit the brakes at least once, that would have given Nguyen a chance to get out of the car’s path, according to Chung.

“I tried to hold the car back, but I’m not Superman,” Chung said, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “She ran off for $35 and killed my wife — $35 to run my wife over.”

Police found the Camaro unoccupied at an apartment complex. The police said the vehicle was a rental car that had been reported stolen about three weeks before Nguyen was killed. Police said they don’t believe the person who originally rented the car is a suspect, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
