DeKalb County, GA – A Good Samaritan with a gun fatally shot an armed robber at a Family Dollar store on Tuesday.

Police said the customer just happened to be at the right place at the right time when a man pointed a gun at the cashiers at the Family Dollar store in the 7000-block of Covington highway, WAGA reported.

“[The Good Samaritan] appeared to be shopping when he heard the confrontation at the cash register. He intervened and stopped the robbery,” DeKalb Police Sergeant Lynn Schuler said.

Witnesses said an employee was just handing over the money at gunpoint when the customer noticed what was happening.

The Good Samaritan wasted no time in drawing his weapon and firing on the robber to protect the cashier, WAGA reported.

There were three employees and two customers inside the store when the incident occurred on Tuesday morning.

WAGA reported that there was security surveillance footage of the shooting, but it has not yet been released.

Investigators were reviewing that video and interviewing witnesses on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the good Samaritan who shot the robber would not be charged in the shooting, WAGA reported.

No one else was injured during the incident.

Police said the clerk was still terribly shaken up but was truly appreciative of the bravery of the customer who intervened and fatally shot the robber.

“She’s upset. She’s dealing with corporate right now… but she’s fine,” an official told WSB.

Police have not yet released the name of the armed robber.
