St. Louis, MO – Reddit, the world’s most popular message board site, has banned a pro-military shirt from their platform, citing a violation of their “Obscene/Offensive” content policy.

The shirt, made by Warrior 12, depicts U.S. Marines raising a flag at Iwo Jima during World War II.

Disclosure: Warrior 12 also creates all officialBlue Lives Matter products. Blue Lives Matter receives proceeds from the sale of Blue Lives Matter products.

On the shirt are the words “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything.”

The shirt uses the same words as the Nike campaign featuring Colin Kaepernick.

Warrior 12 owner, Joseph Murphy, retired from law enforcement to run the patriotic apparel company. He says that he designed the shirt to show what real sacrifice is.

“You have a millionaire who voluntarily quit his job, and it’s considered ‘Sacrificing everything’ for him to not be able to play in the NFL, even though Nike continues to pay him millions,” Murphy told Blue Lives Matter. “What he sacrificed is nothing, unlike the sacrifice of U.S. soldiers who died fighting something real, not an imaginary threat like Kaepernick’s.”

Murphy said that he tried to advertise the shirt on Reddit, a popular ad platform, and a short time later he received an e-mail stating that the shirts he was advertising were now banned.

Blue Lives Matter reviewed the e-mails and noted that four shirts were banned for violating the policy on offensive content which states:

II.5 Obscene, Offensive, or Inappropriate Content – [II.5 Obscene/Offensive]

The ad submitted is in violation of our Ads Policy Section II.5 Obscene, Offensive, or Inappropriate Content. This includes, but is not limited to: content that depicts intolerant or overly contentious political or cultural topics or views, that uses vulgar or sexually explicit words or images, that is designed to evoke visceral reactions, or that is improperly targeted toward minors.

“Don’t get me wrong, Warrior 12 produces some shirts that may be considered offensive to people who are more soft…. Uhh… Hearted. But we didn’t advertise those,” Murphy said. “There’s nothing contentious about the shirts that were banned unless you hate America.”

The following shirts were banned for being too offensive:

‘Sacrificing Everything’ shirt.

‘Stand For The Flag’ shirt.

‘Deus Vult’ (God wills it) shirt.

’Die Like A Warrior’ shirt.

Murphy said that he intends to appeal the ban and is waiting for a response from Reddit.

Do you think that these shirts could be considered offensive? We’d like to hear from you. Please let us know in the comments.
