New York, NY – A prostitute stole an off-duty New York Police Department officer’s personal car with his gun in the front seat when the officer stopped at an ATM to pay her.

Police arrested the prostitute and recovered the vehicle on Wednesday but the officer’s gun is still missing, according to the New York Post.

Soon-to-be-former Officer Ali Sheppard was in his personal 2015 Jeep Wrangler when he hired Taquanna Lawton at about 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, anonymous sources told the New York Post.

The pair were going to a hotel in East New York but Sheppard, 38, made a stop at an ATM at the Imperial Hotel to take out money from an ATM.

While Sheppard was getting the money, Lawton, 20, drove off with his vehicle while the officer’s Smith & Wesson pistol was on the front seat.

Police caught Lawton and the Jeep Wrangler along with narcotics and drug paraphernalia. Lawton was charged with grand larceny and possession of stolen property, according to police.

Lawton told police she was hired for a threesome, according to the New York Post. She said there was another woman with her when they took off in Sheppard’s car.

Lawton was sent to the hospital when it was determined she was also pregnant.

Sheppard has been on the police force for 13 years. He was suspended, according to the New York Post. He made $105,819 last year, the New York Post reported.

“He was immediately suspended and he’ll be facing some disciplinary action,” NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill said Wednesday, according to the New York Post. “We’re working on the investigation.”

The officer’s father was shocked at his son’s actions.

“You’ve got to be f**king kidding me,” Eugene Sheppard said while in his home that he shares with his son, according to the New York Post. “I’m in total shock. I would never have thought this. The man has been in the service twice. I’ve never heard that he would pick up a prostitute.”

The father said his son was a “good kid.”

“I’ve never known anything like this to happen to him,” Eugene said.
