Cincinnati, OH – A former female high school special education teacher in Ohio is accused of having sex and a relationship with a female student.

28-year-old Jennifer Walsh, a teacher at Sycamore High School, had the relationship from May to August according to court records, WXIX reported.

The age of the student was not released.

Walsh was indicted on charges of sexual battery on Monday, according to Hamilton County court documents.

School officials told parents about the incident on Tuesday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

“Montgomery Police is investigating allegations that former teacher Jennifer Walsh engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a student,” Superintendent Frank Forsthoefel told parents in a statement, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Wash had been with the school district since May of 2014, according to school district spokeswoman Mallory Bonbright. She served as a substitute educational assistant. Walsh became a full-time educational assistant in August of 2015 and then became a full-time special education teacher at the high school in August of 2016, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

The school district was told about the relationship by the Montgomery Police Department on Oct. 16. Walsh resigned three days after the incident was reported to the police, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services contacted police after they learned about the relationship. Police took Walsh’s laptop, a cell phone and a journal, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

“Investigators believe this was an isolated incident and that the alleged inappropriate behavior did not occur at school,” Forsthoefel said, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Court records stated that the sexual conduct with a minor took place while Wash was a person in authority at a school where the victim was enrolled.

Walsh posted 10 percent of her $10,000 bond on Tuesday and was released.

“We find the reported allegations to be shocking, upsetting, and take them very seriously,” Forsthoefel said. “We are committed to fully working with the Montgomery Police Department in their investigation and to take appropriate action to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.”
