Tampa, FL – The National Football League is suspending Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston for three games after it was alleged he grabbed a female Uber driver’s crotch in 2016.

ESPN reported the league hasn’t notified Winston of the official decision and the suspension could be longer or shorter based on circumstances.

According to BuzzFeed, a female Uber driver named Kate was called to a party in Scottsdale, Arizona to pick up a passenger at 2 a.m. March 13, 2016.

BuzzFeed stated Kate didn’t want her last name used for fear of retaliation. Kate said that Winston sat in the front passenger seat and right away started to behave “poorly.” Kate said Winston yelled homophobic slurs at pedestrians and then asked to stop for food.

While waiting at a drive-thru, Winston reach over and grabbed Kate’s crotch and held it there for three to five seconds.

“I mean he’s an NFL quarterback and I’m 5 ft 6. I’m not prepared for that. So I completely froze,” Kate said, according to BuzzFeed.

Winston published a statement on Twitter in which he said the allegation was false and said the Uber driver was confused to the number of people in the car and who was sitting next to her.

Winston has had a history of incidents with women dating back to his years in college at Florida State.

In December of 2016, he settled two federal lawsuits with a woman who accused him of rape, according to the New York Times.

The police investigation of that 2012 rape claim was the subject of a New York Times’ investigation. Winston, who said the sex was consensual, was never questioned by police in Tallahassee, Florida and prosecutors ultimately declined to charge him.

The New York Times’ investigation stated that the police and the university did little to determine what had happened.

In September of 2014, Winston was accused by witnesses of standing on a table and yelling, “f**” her right in the p***y,” while at Florida State, according to the Tampa Tribune.

The was a popular phrase that turned into a meme after a viral video was released. Winston was suspended one game by Florida State for making that comment

Winston signed a four-year contract worth $23.35 million in 2015. That included a $16.7 million signing bonus. However, Winston’s base salary for 2018 is scheduled to be $20.9 million. The three-game suspension would cost him $124,000.
