Miami, FL – The Miami Police Department unveiled the latest vehicle in its fleet – a three-wheel Polaris Slingshot marked police unit that will be used for community outreach.

“This is going to be an icebreaker for us. Kids are going to want to walk up to this car, see it, sit in it, talk to the policemen, the policemen get to talk to the kids. I mean, it’s going to be perfect, man, I’m super excited about it,” a very excited Chief Jorge Colina told reporters at the unveiling on Thursday.

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez was the first to jump into the fancy new police car after officers removed the drape that was hiding it. He took it for a spin around the police parking lot with lights and sirens blazing.

The standout vehicle was built and outfitted with police gear at zero cost to the taxpayer, the Miami Police Department said in their Facebook post announcing its acquisition.

Polaris Slingshot donated the Grand Touring model of the autocycle, which became wildly popular after New York Met Yoenis Cespedes showed up at spring training in his own customized version of the three-wheeler, FOX News reported.

Whelen Engineering Company, Inc. donated the lights and sirens, and The Auto Firm customized the vehicle, according to the police department. The Auto Firm is a car shop in Miami that’s known to be popular with celebrities, FOX News reported.

Miami police only plan to use the new police Slingshot for public relations purposes and said it won’t be used for patrol.

However, FOX News pointed out that the little three-wheeler wouldn’t make a bad pursuit vehicle.

The Slingshot goes from zero to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, and boasts a top speed of 130 mph, according to FOX News.
