Miami Beach, FL – A 90-pound homeless man with no arms has been accused of stabbing a tourist with a pair of scissors.
The incident occurred just after midnight on July 10, when two tourists from Chicago encountered the armless artist, according to the Miami Herald.
Cesar Coronado and his friend Cindy Barrientos, both 22, told police that they had stopped to ask 46-yar-old Jonathan Crenshaw for directions when he suddenly jumped up and attacked Coronado with a pair of scissors.
Miami Beach officers found Coronado lying on the ground and bleeding from his left arm. He was transported to the hospital, police said.
Barrientos described his attacker as a homeless man with no arms.
Police went looking for Crenshaw, who was described as a South Beach “character” who was well known for painting on canvas with his feet on Lincoln Road Mall, the Miami Herald reported.
Crenshaw was apprehended nearby in the 200 block of Lincoln Road. He told police he was defending himself.
According to a police report, Crenshaw said he was lying down when Coronado walked up to him and punched him in the head.
Crenshaw told police he stabbed Coronado twice, and then put the scissors back in his waistband and quickly walked off, according to the Miami Herald.
Crenshaw was arrested and was being held at a correctional center on a $7,500 bond. His was scheduled for court on July 18.
The armless artist has an extensive arrest record, dating back to 2008, which includes trespassing, disorderly intoxication, vandalism, and battery on police officers, firefighters, and city code inspectors.
In 2011, the Miami New Times did a story on Crenshaw that made him appear mentally unstable.
He told that publication that his mother fed him rat poison and he impregnated pop star Gloria Estefan 200 times.
Crensaw was also quoted in that 2011 story as saying, “I was born with sharp teeth. When I was five years old, the government drilled them in half.”
