Northdale, FL – The lead guitarist of a death metal band was arrested after he broke into a home and charged at a sheriff’s deputy with a knife.
Patrick O’Brien, 53, is the lead guitarist of Cannibal Corpse.
He forced himself into a home about a half mile from his own house at about 7 p.m. on Monday, according to ABC.
There were two people in the house at the time and one of the told O’Brien to leave. Instead, O’Brien pushed the victim to the ground and then ran into the backyard of the home.
When police arrived, O’Brien didn’t listen to their commands. He ran at one deputy with a knife in his right hand and the deputy used an electronic control device on O’Brien and then arrested him, according to ABC.
At the same time, the Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to a fire at O’Brien’s residence, according to ABC. A neighbor called 911 after she saw flames coming from the house. O’Brien ran away from his own house after officials arrived to fight the fire.
The house had military-style flamethrowers inside which made it more difficult to fight the blaze, ABC reported.
O’Brien was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon and burglary of an occupied dwelling with assault or battery.
The band announced on its Facebook page that it was going to be part of Slayer’s farewell tour in May. Fans of the band still showed support for the band despite the problems with the lead guitarist.
“Robbing someone else while your own house is on fire is pretty death metal!” posted Aritra Prime on the band’s Facebook page.
Cannibal Corpse was founded in 1988 in Buffalo. The band has released 14 studio albums. The band also had a brief cameo appearance in the Jim Carrey movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective where they played their song “Hammer Smashed Face.”
