Trumann, AR – The Trumann police chief was lured into an ambush on Friday and shot, but was able to destroy his attacker in a gunfight.
The incident happened at around 10 a.m. when Johnny Kelley, 49, ask the police chief to come to his residence, according to a statement released by Arkansas State Police.
As Chief Chad Henson approached the door, Kelley opened fire, shooting the chief.
The veteran lawman returned fire, evicting Kelley from this plane of existence.
Kelley’s body was located dead on scene and was submitted to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for an official cause and manner of death determination.
Chief Henson survived the gunfight but his official condition has not been released at this time.
The Arkansas State Police are conducting the investigation.
