Kensington, MD – An illegal immigrant is accused of raping a 13-year-old who police say could only communicate with gestures and writing and has the intellect of a first-grader.

Reynaldo Mora, 41, of Bethesda, was charged with sex abuse of a minor plus to counts of second-degree rape, according to WJLA-TV.

Mora’s attorney claimed police arrested the wrong man.

The victim’s family asked Mora to babysit the special needs girl and her two siblings in February while at their Kensington home. While babysitting, Mora allegedly forced the victim to have sex with him in a bedroom, according to WJLA.

In mid-April, the victim took an in-home pregnancy test and it showed she was pregnant. The victim’s aunt took her to a medical center for further testing, WJLA reported. It was confirmed the victim was 11 weeks pregnant at that time. The girl then told investigators that Mora was the father of the unborn child.

Mora was arrested by police on April 19 and was denied bond. He spent seven weeks in a correctional facility.

Jose Campos, Mora’s defense attorney, filed a motion to reconsider bond. Campos said his client has no criminal record, is willing to surrender his passport and needs to pay $1,000 a month in child support, according to WJLA.

Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Steven Salant gave Mora a personal recognizance bond, which would have allowed Mora to walk out of jail without putting up any money or property for bond, court records show.

However, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had filed a detainer on Mora. Montgomery County authorities handed MORA to federal agents on June 6.

Mora was born in Mexico and is separated from his wife. Mora has three young children of the ages of 3, 10 and 13.

Campos told WJLA his client was innocent. Authorities performed a paternity test but those results are still pending.
