Zebulon, NC – Illegal immigrant Oliver Mauricio Funes-Machado, 18, has had the charges against him dropped which stemmed from the beheading of his mother in March.

Fuenes-Machado was at home with his mother, Yesenia Funes Beatriz Machado, 35, on March 6.

He called 911 and during the 16-minute-long phone call, he told the dispatcher that he had stabbed his mother “like eight times.” He added that he left the knife “in her mouth” and then beheaded her “because I felt like it,” according to WNCN.

Deputies arrived to find Fuenes-Machado walking out of his home “carrying a knife in one hand and a severed human head in the other.”

Two small children were located in the home with the decapitated body. The children were unharmed.

Now, Fuenes-Machado is having charged dropped due to concerns of his mental state.

The public defender described him as a “pretty profoundly disturbed young man.”

“The family wanted to see him .. instead of in prison, he deserves to be in a mental hospital because he can get therapy and get the help he needs,” pastor Danalis Arzola said, according to WNCN.

After receiving evaluations from a group of doctors from Central Regional Hospital, a judge ruled that Fuenes-Machado wasn’t competent to stand trial and would be involuntarily committed until such time that he was found to be competent.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed that Fuenes-Machado is an illegal immigrant from Honduras.

Funes-Machado was a student at Rolesville High School but stopped attending in 2016.
