Titusville, FL – A man licensed to carry a firearm took out a gunman at a school peace rally on Saturday after the gunman opened fire.

The incident happened at Isaac Campbell Park just after 5:20 p.m. according to WFTV.

People brought their children out for a “Peace in the City” event that was promised to be a “day of fun, not violence.”

The anti-violence climate changed after two people at the event got into a fistfight. One of the people involved left, and then returned with a firearm.

The man opened fire in the park, which was full of children.

A bystander who was licensed to carry a firearm drew his own weapon and shot the gunman in the head.

The gunman was airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Nobody important was injured.

“We are extremely grateful that nobody else was injured in this incident,” Deputy Chief Todd Hutchinson said in a statement released by the city. “This suspect opened fire at a crowded public park, this could have been so much worse.”

The detectives consulted with the State Attorney’s office and announced that they do not expect to file charges against the legally armed citizen, because his actions appear to be legal.
