Habersham County, GA – A Georgia sheriff’s deputy lost his wife and two young children after they were involved in a fiery crash over the weekend.

The devastating collision occurred at the intersection of GA 365 southbound and Mt. Zion Road on July 16, Now Habersham reported.

According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), 29-year-old Avonlea Holtzclaw was attempting to cross Ga 365 to Mt. Zion Road when a Chevrolet Corvette crashed into her Ford Explorer.

Holtzclaw’s six-year-old son, Colt, and five-year-old daughter, Maddie Kate, were also inside the SUV, Now Habersham reported.

Investigators said the Corvette was traveling more than 150 miles per hour when it slammed into the family’s vehicle, according to WWNY.

Both vehicles burst into flames as a result of the violent impact.

The driver of the Corvette, 58-year-old Michael Boggs, was killed in the wreck, as was his unidentified passenger, Now Habersham reported.

Holtzclaw, the wife of Hall County Sheriff’s Deputy Patrick Neil Holtzclaw, was killed in the collision, as were the couple’s two children.

Deputy Holtzclaw served the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office for eight years prior to recently joining the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), Now Habersham reported.

“What can you say when someone loses his entire family?” Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch told WWNY after the horrific incident. “There are no words that can adequately express the heartbreak the Holtzclaw family is experiencing right now.”

The HCSO and the Georgia Law Enforcement Organization has established a fundraising effort to help Deputy Holtzclaw in the wake of his loss.

“Deputy Holtzclaw and his family members have been doing their best to grapple with their devastating loss,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post on Wednesday. “He’s had to make decisions he never expected to make, including planning for funeral services for Avonlea and their son and daughter.”

“While we know the family will appreciate any financial support, we are sure they can use your ongoing prayers as they continue to process this tragedy,” the HCSO added. “On behalf of the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, thank you for allowing us to serve a community like Hall County. We are humbled and grateful by the outpouring of compassion and care for this young deputy.”
