St. Anthony, ID – The actor who played Superman in the TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman was the latest celebrity to join the St. Anthony Police Department.

Dean Cain was sworn in as a reserve officer with the St. Anthony PD on June 19, the Idaho Statesman reported.

Cain’s good friend Erik Estrada, from the television series “CHiPs,” became a reserve officer in St. Anthony in 2016.

Recently Retired St. Anthony Police Chief Terry Harris recruited Estrada to the police department while he was still running it, and he assisted Cain in joining the force as well, after he was recruited by Estrada, the Rexburg Standard Journal reported.

“We share a deep respect for law enforcement, so I am honored to serve with this task force in St. Anthony,” Cain said.

Chief Harris said Cain contacted him directly about joining the St. Anthony PD.

“He will be eligible to participate in uniformed patrol with a full-time officer, patrolling the community and participating in specialized projects,” he said.

The former chief said Estrada has put a lot of time into his “All About Kids” non-profit, and has also donated nearly $70,000 in supplies and equipment to the St. Anthony police.

Reserve Officer Estrada also helped raise money to purchase a K9 officer for the department, the Idaho Statesman reported.

Cain said he was looking forward to working with Estrada’s “All About Kids” Task Force, and said that he’s especially concerned about bullying, the Rexburg Standard Journal reported.

“As a single father – and a former superhero – I believe I’m in a unique position to help a lot of young people,” he said. “Internet predators, bullying and suicide are all real and dangerous problems that young people face today. I believe I can help bridge the gap between law enforcement, the community and kids.”

Cain told the Rexburg Standard Journal that the father of his best friend growing up was a police officer.

“I was exposed to law enforcement from an early age. As I have grown older and traveled the world, I have come to respect law enforcement more and more and understand how important it is for law enforcement and the community to work together and to establish trust,” he said.

Cain was sworn into the St. Anthony police by Idaho State Police Corporal Anderson, and his department shared pictures of the ceremony.

After he took his oath, Cain smiled and shook hands with the other officers who were present.

The former Lois & Clark star has made headlines before for supporting American heroes. In 2015, he challenged Michael Moore and Seth Rogen as he defended the legacy of American Sniper Chris Kyle against insults on social media

Rogen had tweeted that American Sniper reminded him of a propaganda film, and Moore posted his opinion that snipers aren’t heroes and shoot people in the back, according to the Washington Times.

“Seth…I like your films, but right now, I wanna kick your ass,” Cain posted on Twitter. “Chris is an American Hero. Period. Go to war. Then we’ll talk.”

In another post, he challenged them to disparage Chris Kyle to his face.

“We’ll see who is a coward. # Disrespect # Coward,” he tweeted.

Before he made it big in Hollywood, Cain played football at Princeton University. He signed with the National Football League’s (NFL) Buffalo Bills, but a knee injury cut short his career before he played in a game.

He has been vocal on multiple occasions in his criticism of NFL players for kneeling during the national anthem.

Most recently, he said he thought the professional football players should accept President Donald Trump’s offer to discuss pardons at the White House, TMZ reported.
