Ex-NFL Star Resists Arrest At Drive-Thru, Cops Smash His Car Windows

McKinney, TX – Former NFL running back Darren McFadden was arrested for DWI after he fell asleep in his car while in the drive-thru line at a fast food restaurant.

McFadden, 31, was arrested early last Saturday after employees at Whataburger found him sleeping in the vehicle at about midnight while it was in the drive-thru lane, ESPN reported.

TMZ reported that McFadden was asleep behind the wheel of a 2018 GMC Yukon. McFadden resisted arrest when police arrive and the driver’s side and passenger windows were smashed during the arrest, according to TMZ.

McFadden is facing charges of driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest and search or transport, according to the Dallas Morning News. McFadden was released on personal recognizance after he was taken into custody.

McFadden lives in the gated community in Prosper, which was about four miles from the Whataburger, according to the Dallas Morning News.

McFadden couldn’t be reached for comment, the Dallas Morning News reported. He also didn’t have a listing for an attorney in court records.

McFadden was a star in college at Arkansas and was taken with the four overall pick in the first round of the 2008 NFL draft. McFadden finished runner-up in college football’s Heisman Trophy voting two years in a row. In 2006, he finished behind Troy Smith of Ohio State. The next year, McFadden finished second behind Tim Tebow of Florida.

McFadden spent 10 years in the NFL. His best year was 2010 when he rushed for a career-high 1,157 yards and caught a career-high 47 passes for 507 yards.

In 2014, McFadden signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Oakland Raiders. The next year, McFadden signed a two-year $5.85 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys. TMZ reported that McFadden made about $50 million during his NFL career.
