Grand Island, NE – An irate woman was arrested for assault and drug offenses, after she attacked her mother and a Grand Island police because her mother refused to turn on the home’s WiFi, police said.

Cynthia Christensen initially called police to her Bellwood Drive home on Nov. 20, after her 19-year-old daughter, Anika Christensen, allegedly hit her with a cell phone for refusing to turn on the wifi in the house, The Independent reported.

Cynthia told police that Anika threatened to kill her, so she fled from her home and returned after her daughter had left.

Police returned to the residence at approximately 8:15 a.m. on Nov. 21 to speak with Anika about the alleged assault.

During the course of the encounter, Grand Island Police Officer Wendy Baumeister began to turn Anika’s body towards a wall, at which point the agitated woman attacked the officer with a drinking glass.

“[The suspect] struck [Officer Baumeister] with the glass on the right side of the front part of the officer’s head,” the department said in a media release, according to The Independent. “This caused immediate pain and the officer felt her scalp swell.”

The officer was able to place Anika under arrest, and subsequently located a glass marijuana pipe inside her jacket pocket, police said.

Anika has been charged with third-degree assault of an officer, terroristic threats, possession of drug paraphernalia, and third-degree assault.

She remained incarcerated at the Hall County Department of Corrections facility as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the agency’s inmate roster.

Her preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Jan. 2.
