St. Johns County, FL – A suspected drunk driver crashed into a vehicle carrying a police officer, a sworn bailiff, and their children early Sunday morning.

The crash happened at around 1:15 a.m. on I-95 near SR-16 while the family was driving home from a sports event, according to WTLV.

As the family was traveling down the road, a second vehicle driven by an allegedly intoxicated 46-year-old woman crashed into them.

The family’s vehicle rolled over, ejected Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) Bailiff Cathy Adams, 43, and entrapped JSO Officer William Adams, 50.

According to WTLV, Bailiff Cathy Adams was mortally wounded in the crash, and her family told the news station that she is being kept on life support until her organs can be donated.

Officer William Adams suffered a broken neck in the collision and he remains in the ICU in critical condition.

The couple’s teen children, aged 14 years old and 16 years old, received minor injuries.

Florida Highway Patrol arrested the allegedly intoxicated driver, Kim Johnston, for two counts of driving under the influence with serious bodily injury to another person, according to WLTV. More charges will be added soon.

The local news media sent news crews to the front of the Adams family home and they have been asked to leave the family alone, according to the Sheriff’s Office

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Adams family and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
