Phoenix, AZ – An armed assailant successfully robbed a QuickTrip convenience store, only to be subdued by customers who knocked him unconscious and robbed him.

The incident occurred on Aug. 21, at a QuickTrip store near Bell Road and 19th Avenue, KNXV reported.

When Phoenix police arrived at the scene, several customers handed over a 17-year-old male suspect they detained as he tried to leave the store.

Investigators learned that the teen had allegedly pointed a handgun at customers and the store clerk before he stole $300 worth of cigarettes and attempted to flee the scene.

But as he made his way to the door, one of the customers tackled him to the ground.

Several more witnesses jumped into the melee, at which point the teen reached for the weapon he had tucked in his waistband.

At that moment, a customer just walking into the convenience store kicked the teen in the head, knocking him unconscious.

Witnesses said that one of the individuals then stole the suspect’s weapon and fled the area, while another stole an unknown item from the unconscious teen’s pocket.

According to police, the customers’ accounts of the incident were corroborated by surveillance footage from the story’s security cameras.

The injured teen was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Later, he told investigators that he did not own a weapon, and that he had no memory of having committed an armed robbery.

He was subsequently charged with attempted armed robbery and aggravated assault.
