Jackson, MS – Three juvenile inmates escaped from a local jail overnight, injuring at least one corrections officer in the process.

The incident occurred at the Henley-Young-Patton Juvenile Justice Center, the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) confirmed in a press release on Wednesday morning.

The facility is not operated by the HCSO, but the sheriff’s office said they are working with the county officials who are responsible for the jail as they figure out how the escape occurred.

Hinds County Administrator Kenny Wayne Jones, who is responsible for overseeing the facility, said the teens broke out at about midnight, WAPT reported.

In addition to injuring a corrections officer, the three male suspects also allegedly injured another detainee, WJTV reported.

The escapees have been identified as 15-year-old Jason Jones, 16-year-old Robert Earl Smith, and 17-year-old Tayshon Holmes.

Details regarding how the teens escaped and the severity of the injuries the corrections officer and detainee suffered have not been released.

It is also unclear what offenses the three juveniles were being held for.

Sources said the escape occurred during a riot inside the jail, the Darkhorse Press reported.

The HCSO said a search for the juvenile escapees remains ongoing.

They urged anyone with information about the three suspects to contact police immediately.

The incident marks the third time multiple inmates have busted out of a jail facility in Hinds County in the past couple of months.

Four adult inmates escaped from the Raymond Detention Center on April 22 after breaching the building’s roof, WAPT reported at the time.

Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said the inmates likely “camped out on the roof and departed at different ways at different times.”

Sheriff Jones said jail staff realized the prisoners were missing the following morning.

The escapees were identified as 51-year-old Jerry Raynes, 22-year-old Dylan Arrington, 24-year-old Casey Grayson, and 22-year-old Corey Harrison.

Investigators said they believe that after his escape, Arrington fatally shot 61-year-old Anthony Watts on April 24 when Watts stopped to help him after a motorcycle crash, WLBT reported.

Arrington allegedly shot Watts multiple times, then stole the slain pastor’s red Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck and sped away.

Arrington shot a deputy in the leg during a standoff at a residence in Carthage, Mississippi, two days later.

The home ultimately went up in flames, and the fugitive’s charred remains were found inside.

Grayson was found unresponsive inside a pickup truck in New Orleans on April 30, WLBT reported.

Sheriff Jones said police found illegal narcotics inside the vehicle, but it is unknown if the drugs played a role in the fugitive’s death.

Raynes was apprehended in Spring Valley, Texas, on April 27.

Harrison was apprehended in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, on May 4, according to WSAZ.

Two more inmates, 31-year-old Michael Lewis and 31-year-old Michael Spring, escaped from the Raymond Detention Center on May 29.

Investigators determined the duo broke out through the ceiling.

“We believe that they were able to get access to an air duct within the facility, which led to the exterior of the facility where they were able to go over a fence and escape,” Sheriff Jones said, according to CNN.

Lewis was apprehended in the area of Springridge Road and Seven Springs Road later that day.

Spring was located and arrested by the HCSO and the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Jackson on June 17, Sheriff Jones said in a tweet.
