Lansdale, PA – A congressional candidate who has been criticized for being anti-law enforcement was caught telling a constituent that “dogs are smarter than police officers.”

Pennsylvania Democratic congressional candidate Scott Wallace was recorded making the nasty crack about police intelligence when he was talking to someone at a campaign event in July, the Washington Free Beacon reported.

Wallace’s opponent, incumbent U.S. Representative Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pennsylvania), has criticized the Democratic candidate’s support for police in the past, and they sparred over the issue in campaign ads, the Washington Free Beacon reported.

The audio recording from a July event was provided to the Washington Free Beacon on Sunday by someone who was at the event. When the woman overheard the nature of the conversation, she began recording.

At the time of the audio recording, the woman who recorded it said Wallace was discussing gun control and school shootings with a constituent.

The topic of arming teachers came up, and the woman who recorded the comments claimed the person speaking told the congressional candidate that teachers were smarter than police officers.

That’s when Wallace responded by saying even “dogs are smarter than police officers.”

The Pennsylvania voter who recorded Wallace’s remarks said she wished to remain anonymous.

The source told the Washington Free Beacon they were an independent voter who is not thrilled with President Donald Trump and was at the campaign event to give Wallace a chance.

The source said they were going to vote for Wallace’s Republican opponent Brian Fitzpatrick after hearing Wallace criticize police.

Wallace’s campaign requested a copy of the full conversation of the conversation from the Washington Free Beacon. However, the woman who provided the recording had not recorded the entire conversation.

When the Wallace campaign was pressed to respond, they decided to attack the recording for capturing Wallace’s comment, rather than acknowledge the comment itself.

“Conveniently, the Washington Free Beacon was unable to provide the full recording – instead relying on twelve seconds of audio from an unidentified time, date and place for their latest smear,” said Zoë Wilson-Meyer, the communications director for Scott Wallace for Congress.

“This isn’t the first time Congressman Fitzpatrick’s campaign has engaged in shockingly unethical campaign tactics – this could even be courtesy of the staffer they sent to our events to pose as a reporter. This is yet another smear from Fitzpatrick and the conservative propaganda machine as they try to cling to a seat they are in real danger of losing,” Wilson-Meyer continued.

“Scott has a deep respect for our law enforcement and has support from local and national law enforcement, including Bucks County Sheriff Milt Warrell and former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder,” she said.

However, law enforcement leaders have spoken out against Wallace after it was revealed that he has donated $3 million to “Democracy Now!”. The organization supports convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal and hosted him on their website for the past 20 years.

According to The Daily Caller, Abu-Jamal said in one of the group’s interviews that the movement for “justice” had begun after he murdered Officer Daniel Faulkner.

“It sickens me to see a person like Scott Wallace would repeatedly support an organization that gives face time to a Cop Killer.” Bucks County FOP President Bob Bray said. “It wasn’t a one time donation and he later found out about Mumia. It was repeated to the tune of millions.”
