Chicago, IL – Police said an armed robbery victim, who happened to be a concealed carry permit holder, turned the tables on his attacker by shooting him during a holdup early Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred in the 2600-block of West Devon Avenue in the West Ridge neighborhood on the city’s north side shortly after 3:30 a.m. on July 5, WGN reported.

Chicago police said three men, ages 33, 31, and 26, were standing outside near a vehicle when a man with a gun walked up to them and ordered them to hand over their belongings.

The victims complied with his demand and gave him their property, WGN reported.

But the 26-year-old robbery victim happened to be a concealed carry license holder and drew his firearm at some point during the heist, according to investigators.

He then shot their attacker multiple times, leaving him critically injured, WBBM reported.

The wounded suspect was hit in the torso and also suffered a graze wound to the head, according to FOX News.

He was subsequently transported to St. Francis Health Center, where he remained in critical condition later that evening, according to WGN.

Police said the three robbery victims were not injured during the botched holdup.

Investigators said the victims did not know the suspect prior to the confrontation, FOX News reported.

Police have not released the identities of the suspect or the three victims.

It is unclear whether any criminal charges have been filed.

The Chicago Police Department’s (CPD) investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

Legally-armed citizens stopped at least 44 crimes in Chicago between 2020 and February of this year, according to FOX News.

Another crime victim, 35-year-old Carlishia Hood, filed a lawsuit against the city and members of the CPD just last week after she and her 14-year-old son were arrested for murder for the June 18 shooting death of a man who attacked her at a food stand, USA Today reported.

A bystander captured the deadly shooting on video.

Hood, who has a valid firearm owner’s identification card and a concealed carry permit, was viciously assaulted by 32-year-old Jeremy Brown before Hood allegedly told her son to shoot Brown in order to stop the attack, USA Today reported.

Hood and her son were both arrested for first-degree murder, but those charges have since been dropped.

“I’ve experienced pain in many ways that I would never have thought,” Hood said after the charges were dismissed, according to USA Today. “What happened to me was totally unnecessary. Never in a million years would I have imagined being brutally attacked, beaten and being arrested.”
