Sacramento, CA – The California parole board has recommended that a member of the Manson family be released on parole.

Robert Beausoleil, 71, has previously been denied parole on 18 occasions, and has served almost 50 years of his life sentence, FOX News reported.

Beausoleil was convicted of murdering musician Gary Hinman at Charles Manson’s behest in 1969 after torturing the man for three days.

Testimony at earlier parole hearing revealed that Manson had cut Hinman’s face with a sword while they were torturing him to death, according to the Associated Press.

In an interview conducted from prison, Manson admitted to cutting off Hinman’s ear.

Beausoleil was not part of the Manson cult’s most famous crime, the murders of actress Sharon Tate and six other people, committed the same year.

His victim’s relative said that the murderer should be content with the fact that his death sentence was reduced to life in prison by an appeals court in 1973.

Manson was also sentenced to death in 1971, but got a reprieve two years later when California got rid of the death penalty, NBC News reported.

Kay Hinman Martley, Gary Hinman’s cousin, said that she will appeal to California’s new governor and tell him “this man does not belong outside the walls of prison,” FOX News reported.

“I constantly have hope that they’ll do the right thing and keep these people in prison, and now my hopes have to go with the governor,” Martley said.

Manson, who died in prison in 2017, sent his followers to commit a series of shocking murders in 1969.

The family members of his other victims have also been pro-active about blocking parole for Manson’s other followers.

“One could say I’ve forgiven them, which is quite different than forgetting what they are capable of,” Debra Tate, the sister of Manson’s most famous victim, said. “It is for this reason I fight so hard to make sure that each of these individuals stays in prison until the end of their natural days.”
