Cedar Hill, TX – Cedar Hill police officers stopped an active shooter who opened fire inside a Texas medical building on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at about 12:15 p.m. on July 25 at a medical building located in the 900-block of East Belt Line Road, KDFW reported.

When officers arrived on the scene, there was one gunshot victim on the ground in front of the medical clinic.

Officials said officers saw the suspect – a black man carrying a long rifle – attempting to flee the scene in a black four-door Chrysler, DFW Scanner reported.

Police said that suspect crashed his car one minute later in the 700-block of East Belt Line Road.

Officers could see the suspect pointing a long gun toward police from inside his wrecked vehicle, according to DFW Scanner.

Officials said that five police officers discharged their weapons at the armed suspect.

The wounded gunman was transported to Methodist Dallas Medical Center for treatment, KDFW reported.

He remained hospitalized in critical condition and his identity has not yet been released to the public.

A physician who was in the building when the gunfire erupted was also wounded, DFW Scanner reported.

He was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle that the suspect crashed into when he fled was also hurt and had to be transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries, DFW Scanner reported.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office will head up the investigation into the officer-involved shooting with assistance from the district attorney’s office.

Officials said there were multiple security and bodycam videos of the incident that would be reviewed by investigators, DFW Scanner reported.
