Tulare, CA – A Tulare police officer and a police K9 were shot Sunday night during in a gun battle spanning multiple scenes.
Witnesses told Visalia Times Delta that dozens of shots were heard in the area of Tulare Avenue and West Street.
The reason for the gunfight isn’t clear at this time, but a police officer, a K9 officer, and one suspect were all shot.
The police officer was shot in the arm and upper torso, and his condition has not been released.
The K9 officer is in critical condition and has been taken to an emergency vet.
The suspect was transported to Kaweah Delta Medical Center in “life-threatening” condition.
It’s not clear if more suspects were involved, but authorities have said that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
UPDATE: The officer initially tried to stop a vehicle with three occupants. The vehicle failed to stop for the officer, leading him on a pursuit. The vehicle stopped and at least one occupant opened fire. The officer was hit in the hand and vest and is expected to survive. His K9 was fatally shot. One suspect was fatally shot, one is in grave condition, and one is uninjured.
