DeKalb County, GA – A DeKalb county officer and a police K9 were shot Thursday evening.

The incident started as a traffic stop on Candler Rd, according to WSB-TV.

The suspect fled on foot from the traffic stop, then turned and opened fire on both the officer and K9, hitting them both.

A second officer returned fire, shooting him.

The wounded officer and suspect are both in critical condition. UPDATE: They both succumbed to their injuries. Latest HERE.

The K9’s condition has not been released at this time.

This shooting comes just days after an officer in California was shot alongside his K9 partner. The K9 in California succumbed to his gunshot wounds.
