Corning, NY – There are reports that a New York State Police (NYSP) trooper was fatally shot early Monday morning near Corning Community College and Spencer Crest Nature Center.

The Associated Press reported that law enforcement sources said the state trooper was responding to a call for a domestic incident on June 2 when he was shot. Other reports said the suspect had been suicidal.

The suspect has also died, the Associated Press reported. Police have not yet released the names of anyone involved in the shooting.

The state police confirmed the incident was a “shooting, and an active scene,” but they have not yet confirmed that an officer was wounded or killed at this time, according to WETM.

Residents of Powderhouse Road told WETM that early Monday morning, they received a telephone alert from New York State Police that said to; “stay inside and lock your doors.”

The incident has generated a massive police presence, according to the New City Patch.

Corning Community College posted an update on the Facebook page that said the incident had nothing to do with the school and did not involve any students or staff.

The message said that there was no threat to the campus, and that the state police would be using one of the college’s parking lots as a “Command Center.”
