Jacksonville Beach, FL – A Jacksonville Beach police officer was shot near a Waffle House Wednesday night.

The details are still developing and information is preliminary and subject to change.

Action News Jax reports that the incident happened at Beach Blvd. and 3rd St.

No details have been released at this time about what prompted the shooting.

An officer was a shot and a second person was transported to the hospital. It’s not known at this time if the second person is a victim or the suspect or if they sustained gunshot wounds.

The condition of the officer has not been released at this time.

UPDATE: The officer was driving down Beach Blvd when a suspect on foot opened fire on him. The suspect fled east where to more officers confronted him and engaged him in a gunfight. Both the suspect and an officer were shot.
